Spring Snow Surprise!

Spring Snow Surprise!

The spring birds are arriving daily here in the hilltowns of Massachusetts in April and this morning they awoke to a snowcapped roof – Brrrrrrr!

I’m so very glad they have a cozy spot to settle into for this momentary silly weather pattern sent by Mother Nature!

For more New England BIRD adventures visit P.L.A.Y. Birds to read stories and engage in curious and creative activities designed for the whole family.

The bird story book begins HERE.

Mother Nature surprised us all with a stack of spring snow on the already blooming tulips in our flower garden.

Thankfully our seedlings weathered the storm indoors in both our home and in the community greenhouse so we are still on track for cucumbers and other delights in our veggie garden.

P.L.A.Y. in Place – PROJECT #1 -Spring 2020

Curiosity + Creative Challenge for YOU!

My fellow community member passed me a bunch of bare stalks of forsythia on March 17th and only five days later on March 21st (today) they have sprung forth their sweetness! So cool!

❤ ❤ Your Creative Challenge ❤ ❤

What nature do you have locally, right outside your door, that could be brought (responsibly) into your home or can be seen from your windows to observe the magical changes mother nature provides?

Community Connection

There are so many ways to share your P.L.A.Y. in Place Project with friends and family!

Here’s a few suggestions:

  • Take photos daily to capture the subtle changes and compare them
  • Sketch the size + shape + color of your nature object daily
  • Write notes on your observations and record remarks by household members too!
  • Use your sense of humor to name your nature object and write a short comic strip adding a new box daily as you see changes occurring
  • Use your favorite social media platform to share this P.L.A.Y. project
  • Skies the limit and out-of-the-box thinking highly encouraged!

Rx – Nature Nurtures – Breath of Fresh Air

Short and Simple Spring Tidings in Odd Times

Nature Nurtures us and is good ” Rx medicine” for one and ALL – always.

In this time of feeling like the world is upside down take a moment to get grounded by connecting to nature.

A momentary breath of fresh air,

seeing buds on the trees,

searching for seedlings sprouting in the spring soil,

simply watching the clouds go by,

or soaking up some sunshine

are all ways we can bring peace and calm back into our lives to help navigate the challenges ahead.

Once you are there in that space pay attention to the kiddos and pets in your life and find moments of laughter and silly to help light the way.

❤ ❤ ❤ We are all connected and in this together. ❤ ❤ ❤

Signs of SPRING – Yippee!!!

While trimming vines and removing dead branches from a local tree to prep it for “climbing season” (yes – as in connecting back to childhood and spending time P.L.A.Y.-ing aloft) I chanced upon a few wonderful sights and sounds of migration.

9AM – 70 geese flew overhead in a check-mark formation heading North

10AM – 70+ more geese were heard heading North slightly out of view due to the ridge

11AM – 30+ more geese were seen heading North

by Karen L. Willard

Spring is just around the bend with the final bands of snow coming through and the white stuff melting off the southern slopes up here in the north west corner of Massachusetts.

There are still a few ice adventures in store down at the brook and river with the melting run off beginning to raise the water levels too.

Buds and blooms are slowly appearing with a few insects taking the lead as they make their way on the muddy surfaces and taking flight.

So many new and exciting wonder and wander moments ahead as nature unfolds into the next season of renewal.
